A seating chart must be made (So that the user of a particular computer at a particular time, can be traced). So do not switch seats or computers, instead: Tell Mr. Thompson about any problems being experienced and let him fix it. Parents, you can see your child's grades on Parent Connect. Parents Please Note: In Ascend, each student goes at their own pace, so the number of items your child has done may not match the number of headings in the markbook. Lock Down Drill during Period 1

Area of a Rectangle
Measuring lengths

Materials:
Gridded Board, Ruler, sharp pencil, plain paper

Method:

An area is measured by counting the number of squares in it.
Draw a sketch of the Gridded Board.

What is its shape?
Find its area.
What is the shortcut? Hence, what is the formula for fiding this area
Show your working.
What unit is the area measured in?

Find the area of the sheet of Plain Paper?

What shape is it?
Hence what is the formula for finding its area?
Measure its Length in centimeters.(cm.)
Measure its Width in centimeters (cm.)
Calculate the area.
Round answer to the same precision as that to which you made the measurements.
Write the unit in which you are measuring.

Evaluation:

Only Gridded Board's area found, paper not done
Better not to give ruler until area foud using "units".
Lockdown occured during period 1.
Period 7 is a large and restless class. Many did not complete the board assignment.

Continue to discuss rules and procedures.

Discuss my classroom rules and why they are necessary.

Goal:

I will pass the FCAT math test next February-March with a level 3, 4, or 5.
By the end of this semester I will be achieving at least 70% on FCAT tests.

Method:

I will learn to read carefully for comprehension.
I will diagnose my weak areas in Math - one topic at a time.
I will then fill those gaps and then practice until I excel in each area.

Classroom Rules

Peace and Love imply:

Respect other people (teachers, students, administrators, support staff).
Respect other people's person (have no physical contact (school rule)).
Respect other people's space (do not invade it).
Respect other people's property (ask and obtain permission before touching other peoples properties, treat it as good as or better than you would your own).
Listen first, then talk (do not speak out of turn).
Come prepared for class. (Exercise book, pencil or pen)
Arrive on time (respect yourself, and the teacher).
Respect the school's rules (be on time for class, do not eat in this classroom (ants), use the garbage boxes)
Help and be kind to each other (do not fight (zero tolerance), do not verbally abuse each other (not even in jest))

Tardies
- Door will be LOCKED AFTER THE LAST BELL.
- Tardy students will have to go to IC.
Never play inside the Math Lab.
Quizzes can be done at home, but all tests must be done in this room.
Each Unit must be done within the specified time frame.
Quizzes and tests will be done either on loose-leaf paper or online.

Entry

Enter and be seated before the second bell.
Always sit in the same seat and use the same computer.
Pull up the day's agenda and follow it.
If you have a question raise your hand and / or call Mr. Thompson.

Exit

Leave your papers on Mr. Thompson's desk before leaving.
Leave only after the bell has rung.

Bathroom

Wait until the class discussion is done before leaving.
Only one student may leave the classroom at a time.
Sign the Hall Pass Log as well as the Hall Pass.
Take the Hall Pass with you.

Discuss the consequences for breaking the rules.

For breaking the rules:

Verbal warning
Name on blackboard.
Seat change.
Expulsion from classroom (Sit with Mr. Pollock and do bookwork.)
3 warnings cause a detention plus a phone call home.
2 detentions cause a referral.
I reserve the right to jump straight to a referral.

Which other rules do you think are necessary?
Tomorrow we will discuss the specific rules that apply to the computers.

Evaluation:

Good classes.
Students must bring notebook and pencils or pens.

9th graders heard Dr. Joe speak - very inspirational! Period 4 missed this schedule as a result.
Inauguration of Barak Obama as 40th president of USA on TV during Period 7.
Used overhead projector to discuss the news.
