Benchmarks

Aim:
At the end of this lesson each student will :
Know who I am and how to address me
Know the rules of my class, why they are essential, and the consequences for breaking them.
Know why it is important to study math, and FCAT math in particular.
Method:
Write my name on the blackboard.
Discuss my classroom rules and why they are necessary.
Peace and Love implies:
Respect other people (teachers, students, administrators, support staff).
Respect other people's person (have no physical contact (school rule)).
Respect other people's space (do not invade it).
Respect other people's property (ask and obtain permission before touching other peoples properties, treat it as good as or better than you would your own).
Listen first, then talk (do not speak out of turn).
Come prepared for class. (Exercise book, pencil or pen)
Arrive on time (respect yourself, and the teacher).
Respect the school's rules (be on time for class, do not eat in this classroom (ants), use the garbage boxes)
Help and be kind to each other (do not fight (zero tolerance), do not verbally abuse each other (not even in jest))
Discuss the consequences for breaking them.
For breaking the rules.
Verbal warning
Name on blackboard.
3 warnings cause a detention plus a phone call home.
2 detentions cause a referral.
I reserve the right to jump straight to a referral.
Tardies
Write name on the tardy list.
3 tardies give a tardy referral.
Enter and sit quietly (do not distract the class)
Be seated before the second bell rings
Rules for handling the computers, why they are necessary, consequences for breaking them.
Always remember that most classes want computers but do not have them. Having these is a very great privilege (thanks to Mr. Duda, Mr. Herbic, Mr. Zulli, Mr. Turner). They will allow individualized remedial work. Most of you will not pass FCAT without that. You must pass FCAT to graduate.
Handle them gently (aim is that your children will use them).
Avoid picking them up. Use both hands underneath to pick them up (never use the screen to pick them up).
Only go to the website(s) designated (never go to other web sites).
Consequence: you will have to use paper and pen to do the exercise.
If you deliberately damage school property you will have to pay for it (and you will not have it in the future).
Plug in the computer whenever the orange light comes on.
If you have to share a computer, alternate its use between the two of you. Help each other, but produce you own work (make sure you understand the work to do well on the tests).
Never touch another person's keyboard.
Classwork
Check out a computer.
Boot up.
